Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To obtain a softening composition of a biodegradable fiber product having good stability and capable of imparting softness to a fiber in rinsing stage by including a specific ester bond-containing quaternary ammonium salt and an extender substance of a specific compound. CONSTITUTION: An ester bond-containing quaternary ammonium represented by formula I [R1 is a 1-4C alkyl, alkenyl or hydroxyalkyl; R2 is an 8-28C alkyl or alkenyl; T is formula II to formula IV; (n) is 0-5] in an amount of 1 wt.% is mixed with 0.1 wt.% extender substance selected from (a) a quaternary ammonium salt containing a long chain alkyl or alkenyl, (b) a linear nonionic substance or (c) a mixture of the component (a) with the component (b) and the mixture is heated to a temperature not lower than 40 deg.C and dispersed into water to readily obtain the objective softening composition for fiber products for softening a fiber product in rinsing stage of washing. The composition is a softening agent rich in stability and having biodegradablity.
