CUTTING OF SILICA GLASS ROD AND DEVICE THEREFOR

PURPOSE:To efficiently cut silica glass rod in a face perpendicular to longitudinal direction by forming broken part with making a notch in reverse face to the outer periphery of the silica glass rod using left and right cutters and applying impact force from the reverse side. CONSTITUTION:Plunger 3 is enforced to one side by a force-accumulating spring 4. Then, a pair of cutters 7 supported by a housing 1 with shaft in left and right are synchronously driven with each other by the plunger 3 with a silica glass rod 8 in center. On the other hand, energy is accumulated in the spring 4 by a driving means 13. Thus, reverse surfaces of the outer periphery of the glass rod are simultaneously notched by the cutters 7 and impact forces in the reverse directions with each other are applied to cut the silica glass rod.
