AIR CONDITIONER

PURPOSE:To dissolve an unpleasant sensation generated when the operation of an air conditioner is initiated by providing a return path for returning part of the air discharged from the exhaust side of a heat exchanger to its suction side therethrough and an adjusting mechanism for adjusting the amount of the returned air flowing in the return path. CONSTITUTION:An opening and closing adjusting mechanism 20 is composed of a wind control plate 21 rockably provided in a return path 19 and an operating material 22 provided between the wind control plate 21 and a fixed portion in the return path 19. Since the operating material 22 is made of a shape memory alloy, the operating material 22 shrinks at a low temperature to keep the return path 19 open and, when a temperature rises, the operating material 22 extends to keep the return path 19 closed. Therefore, when a room temperature is low on the initiation of room heating and the temperature of the air blown out from a cross flow fan 15 is low, since the much air is returned to a heat exchanger 14 via the return path 19 to give heat to the heat exchanger 14, the air from a blowout opening 12 is warm though a little. When the room temperature and therefore the temperature of the air blown out from the fan 15 rise, the amount of the air returned to the heat exchanger 14 via the return path 19 is reduced and the amount of the air from the blowout hole 12 is increased as it is warm.
