Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain refractories without requiring addition of hexamethylenetetramine curing agent to cause evolution of ammonia gas by using a body containing a specific metal chloride, refractory aggregate and novolak type phenol resin. CONSTITUTION:(A) At least one metal chloride selected from ferric chloride, aluminum chloride and stannous chloride is blended with (B) a refractory aggregate (e.g. magnesia or alumina) and (C) a novolak type phenol resin to give a body. Then the body is optionally mixed with water, an organic solvent (e.g. ethylene glycol), tar pitch, etc., molded and the molded article is calcined corresponding to purposes to produce a refractory. Consequently, curing properties are improved because of addition of the component A, blending of hexamethylenetetramine as a curing agent to cause evolution of ammonia gas is not required and the amount thereof can be extremely reduced even if hexamethylenetetramine is added.
