PURPOSE:To easily produce the title Zn powder having a high content of oxygen by quenching molten Zn into powder, placing the powder in an autoclave, and bringing the powder into contact with the air contg. saturated steam under specified temp. and pressure conditions. CONSTITUTION:Zn is melted and vaporized in a Zn vapor generator, and the Zn vapor is quenched in a condenser to obtain Zn powder. The Zn powder is placed in a vessel 11 in the autoclave 1, a lid 13 permeable to air is fixed, and water containers 12 in piles are arranged under the vessel 11. The inside of the autoclave is heated to a temp. higher than 100 deg.C and lower than the m.p. of Zn by an electric heating furnace 10 mounted on the periphery of the autoclave 1. The air at >=2atm. is introduced from a supply port 5. Consequently, the O2 in air and the steam vaporized from the water in the container 12 are mixed to form an atmosphere contg. stem at high temp. and pressure, the Zn powder in the vessel 11 is oxidized, and the Zn powder having a high content of oxygen is produced.
