PRODUCTION OF MAGNETIC HEAD

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of a pseudo gap due to an oxide protective film and to improve the magnetic characteristic by providing an oxide protective film on the gap forming surface side of a ferrite core forming a magnetic head core, removing the protective film on the gap forming surface by polishing and forming the film of a ferromagnetic metal thereon. CONSTITUTION:The oxide protective film 12 is formed on the gap forming surface 15 of a ferrite core 11 and its surrounding groove, and only the protective film 12 formed on the surface 15 is removed by polishing. A magnetic metallic film 13 is formed on the gap forming surface 15 of the core 11 freed of the film 12 and on the film 12 remaining on the track groove forming surface to complete a magnetic head 10. Consequently, the oxide protective film is not formed on the gap forming surface, only the ferromagnetic metal film is formed thereon, and a pseudo gap due to the oxide protective film is not generated. Furthermore, since the track groove part is covered with the oxide protective film, the deterioration of ferrite is reduced.
