Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To prevent the rupture of a battery container due to the generation of hydrogen gas and prevent the reduction of the charge-discharge cycle life due to an increase of the internal resistance of a battery by concurrently using an alkaline metal or an alkaline metal alloy and a hydrogen storage alloy for a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen storage alloy with relatively low balance dissociation pressure and a large storage capability when hydrogen is stored or released near the normal temperature is concurrently used with an alkaline metal or an alkaline metal alloy for a negative electrode 2. Lanthanum-nickel, misch metel-nickel, calcium-nickel and their mixture are used for the hydrogen storage alloy.
