PURPOSE:To enable belt exchange while the operation of a heat treatment furnace is kept continued by adopting a winder having a revolution braking function in place of the conventional roll for a spare belt and maintaining the tension necessary for the belt by this winder and pinch rolls for conveying the belt. CONSTITUTION:The spare belt 6 which is tightly wound on the winder 13 is drawn out on the deteriorated belt 16 and the belts 16 and 6 are welded above a welding bench 7. The belt 16 positioned between this welding section 17 and the pinch rolls 5 is then cut. The cut belt 16 is not slackened at all even if raw material powder 4' is placed thereon by the pulling effect of the rolls 15 and the revolution braking effect of the winder 13. This state is maintained during the belt exchange operation. A pulling jig 11 is then mounted to the cut end of the bet 16 and the rolls 5 and the winder 13 are driven to move the belt 16 and the let off the belt 6 simultaneously. A winch 9 is operated in synchronization therewith to draw the belt 16 to the outside of the system and to wind the same. The belts 6 are welded to each other when the belts 6 overlap on each other on the bench 7. The belt 16 is cut from the belt 6 and the exchange operation is completed.
