CUSHIONING DAMPER

PURPOSE: To bring about preselectable, advantageously medium damping action in the event of a defect by providing a second throttle passage which is opened during defects. CONSTITUTION: While an electromagnetic coil 32 is current-loaded, a control slider 34 moves against a return spring 36 and a slit 96 provided in the passage 91 of a second throttle passage 80 is completely covered with the edge 97 of a valve element 44, so that in a predetermined driving condition of a damper 2 the passage 90 is completely closed and ceases to function, with a predetermined medium flowing through only a throttle passage 30 having a variable throttle cross section. However, if the electromagnetic coil 32 is not loaded with nor acted upon by current because of a defect, then the return force of the spring 36 pushes a control slide 34 toward the stepped part 88 of the valve element 44 to close the passage 30 by a predetermined amount or more and at the same time to open the passage 90. The throttled condition of the pressure medium flowing through the passage 90 is specified by an effective throttle surface 98, which is designed to effect an arbitrarily selectable, advantageously average damping.
