METHOD FOR GRINDING BACK-UP ROLL FOR ROLLING MILL

PURPOSE:To prevent clogging by disposing a frame arrayed with plural grinding wheels at prescribed intervals in the longitudinal direction in the direction where the longitudinal direction of the frame crosses the axis of a back-up roll, pressing the respective grinding wheels to the surface of the back-up roll and moving the frame back and forth in the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:The grinding wheels 1 are supported adjustably in pressing by cylinders 2. The cylinders 2 are fixed to the frame 3. The frame 3 is equipped at its end with a driving device 5 which applies reciprocating motion to the frame 3 and the grinding wheels along a guide 4 in the longitudinal direction of the frame 3. The grinding wheel 1 group is lowered toward the back-up roll 12 by the cylinders 7 until the wheels arrive at the surface of the roll at the time of grinding. The face pressures of the respective grinding wheels 1 on the back-up roll 12 are then respectively regulated by the cylinders 2 to attain the specified face pressure; thereafter, the roll surface is ground by the rotation of the back-up roll 12 and the reciprocating motion of the grinding wheel 1 group. The online grinding is possible in this way and since the entire part of the grinding wheels is uniformly utilized, the clogging of the grinding wheels is prevented.
