PRODUCTION OF ACTIVE CARBON

PURPOSE:To obtain active carbon excellent in physical properties such as filling density and decoloring power at a low cost by blending a formed product of an active carbon raw material with a specific amount of coal and/or hard pitch having prescribed characteristics, carbonizing the resultant mixture in chamber-oven type coke oven equipment and activating the resultant carbonized substance. CONSTITUTION:Coal having >=2.5 (logDDPM) Giesler maximum fluidity, >=2.5 button index and =40% fixed carbon are prepared. With 30-90% formed product of an active carbon raw material, is blended 70-10% coal or hard pitch having the aforementioned characteristics alone or a mixture of the coal with the hard pitch. The resultant blend is then carbon ized in chamber-oven type coke oven equipment and activated to afford the objective active carbon. Thereby, even the formed product of the active carbon raw material which cannot been carbonized in the existing chamber-oven type coke oven can be carbonized to reduce the equipment cost.
