Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a high-contrast display by making the grain size of 1st spacers larger than that of 2nd spacers which are mixed with a sealant and specifying their ratio. CONSTITUTION:Spherical black resin particulates which have a small coefficient of compressive elasticity are used as the 1st spacers 3 for controlling a gap and the 2nd inorganic spacers 4 are mixed with the sealant 5; and the particle size of the 1st spacers 3 is larger than that of the 2nd spacers 4 and their ratio is 1:0.98 - 1:0.84. In this case, a coupled of substrates 1 and 2 are pressed with specific pressure and fixed with the sealant 5. At this time, the substrates 1 and 2 are bent and the 1st spacers 3 deform with the pressure; when the load is removed, the substrates 1 and 2 are held in a contact state because of the repulsion based upon the elastic force of the spacers. The accuracy of the gap between both the substrates is determined by the surface unevenness of the substrates and the gap is formed uniformly. Consequently, the display contrast is improved.
