APPARATUS FOR DISPLAYING PRESENT POSITION OF MOVING BODY

PURPOSE:To accurately perform matching processing in the optimum state by properly selecting and changing over a principal road map and a detailed road map corresponding to a running state when the present position is corrected on the basis of a running locus and the road pattern on a map. CONSTITUTION:The map read from a map data memory medium 5 is projected on a display apparatus 7 and successively renewed according to the running from a starting point to be displayed thereon. In a signal processor 3, when the present position of a moving body and the running locus thereof up to said position are shifted from the road on the map, a candidate road is extracted by the matching of the pattern of each road in the vicinity of said road with the running locus pattern to correct the present position and the display position of the running locus. When a principal map is changed over to a detailed map, it is necessary to newly extract a candidate road becoming a matching processing object but, in this case, the continuity of the matching processing performed on the basis of the principal map up to now is lost. Therefore, processing is properly performed so that when a matching processing time follows the running of the moving body, the detailed map is selected and, when the matching processing time does not follow, the principal map is selected.
