PURPOSE:To execute various printing operations by a printing format having versatility by providing an input means for inputting a character-string placed between a prefix and a suffix of a specific character-string, and a discriminating means for recognizing the character-string as a printing format instruction. Data received from a host computer is delivered as it is to a word/phrase analyzing part, inputted to a register of an FIFO format and compared with a command character-string and a command code, and when the command character-string or the command code and the data conform to each other, it is informed to a command executing part, and a switching part is switched to a character buffer. The command executing part analyzes the command, decides the end of the command and the parameter, and changes over a switch to a command buffer again. In such a way, a printing format instruction can be recognzied.
