Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To produce prostaglandin in high yield by culturing a microorganism belonging to the genus Acinetobacter. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism, e.g. Acinetobacter.calcoaceticus ATCC17904, belonging to the genus Acinetobacter, Aspergillus or Mortierella and having the ability to produce prostaglandin is cultured under aerobic conditions to collect the prostaglandin from the resultant culture or a highly unsaturated fatty acid such as arachidonic acid or eicosapentaenoic acid is added to a solution of the above-mentioned microbial cells or treated substances thereof to carry out enzymic reaction. Thereby, the highly unsaturated fatty acid is converted into the prostaglandin.
