Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To prepare the silver catalyst which contains a heavy alkali metal accelerator by doping a supported catalyst containing silver and an alkali metal in an impregnating solution containing a heavy alkali metal and a specific nitrate of the formula or the like. CONSTITUTION: The silver catalyst which contains a heavy alkali metal accelerator on the basic catalyst containing silver and lithium is prepared by doping a supported catalyst containing silver and an alkali metal such as lithium in an impregnating solution which includes a nitrate or a mixture of nitrates of the formula R NO3 (but, R is ammonium-, hydrazinium-, 1-12C monoalkyl ammonium- or the like) in addition to a heavy alkali metal such as sodium and potassium. The catalyst thus prepared is useful as a high efficient catalyst for preparation of ethylene.
