Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To perform multipoint range finding by simple constitution by irradiating the different positions within a visual field with the lights from a plurality of light sources and respectively detecting the input positions of the reflected lights to one unidimensional semiconductor position detection element to calculate a distance. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting source 13 has (n) light emitting elements IR1 - IRn and the projected lights from the respective light emitting elements are projected through a projection lens on to the object 15 corresponding in the direction of the respective light emitting elements. The reflected lights from the object 15 are incident on a unidimensional semiconductor position detection element 14 through alight detection lens 12 and the distance up to the object 15 is calculated from the incident positions. The light emitting elements IR1 - IRn are successively turned ON to perform the range finding of the corresponding visual field part.
