SERUM-FREE CULTURE MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To provide a serum-free medium permitting to effectively multiply animal cells and readily purify the product and having high availability by adding an inorganic iron compound as a multiplication factor to a basic synthesis medium. CONSTITUTION:A basic medium containing as main components amino acids, inorganic salts and saccharides which are components supporting the fundamental metabolism of cells is prepared. To the fundamental synthesis medium an inorganic iron compound comprising iron sulfate, iron chloride, iron nitrate or hydrate thereof is added to provide the serum-free medium. The serum-free medium permits to effectively culture animal cells similarly when a serum medium is used. Cultured product can be purified more readily the when the serum medium is used, and the preparation of the medium can also be performed more profitably.
