Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the title yarn having excellent tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, etc., by heating pitch raw material into a viscous state, feeding the raw material into a discharging orifice while bringing the raw material into contact with a gas having a specific temperature before polycondensation reaction is completed, spinning, infusibilizing, carbonizing and graphitizing. CONSTITUTION:A pitch raw material is heated into a viscous state. Before the viscous substance completes polycondensation reaction, the raw material is fed into a discharge orifice while being brought into contact with a gas (e.g. N2 gas, exhaust gas of combustion) having 400-650 deg.C. The fed viscous substance is spun, the spun substance is infusibilized, successively carbonized (heated to 800-1,200 deg.C preferably at 1-10 deg.C/minute rate of heating) and graphitized (heated to 2,000-2,800 deg.C preferably at 30-60 deg.C/minute rate of heating) to give the objective yarn.
