Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain the corresponding ketone in high yield at a low cost without any problems in environmental safety by directly oxidizing a secondary alcohol in an inert organic solvent using hydrous zirconium oxide as a catalyst and a ketone as an oxidizing agent. CONSTITUTION:A secondary alcohol is reacted with a ketone in the presence of hydrous zirconium oxide, preferably in one or more inert organic solvents selected from hydrocarbons, ethers, nitriles and halogen-based organic solvents, especially benzene, xylene, cyclohexane, toluene, tetrahydrofuran, dioxane, acetonitrile and chloroform to directly oxidize the above-mentioned alcohol into the corresponding ketone in high selectivity and yield using the aforementioned catalyst without causing any problems in environmental pollution, etc., at all and the above-mentioned inexpensive oxidizing agent.
