Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain the title high-purity compound by reacting phthalic acid, etc., with urea, etc., a specific amount of cuprous chloride and catalyst in an inert organic solvent under heating. CONSTITUTION:Phthalic acid or a phthalic acid derivative is reacted with urea or a urea derivative and 95-99% stoichiometric amount based on phthalic acid or the derivative thereof of cuprous chloride in the presence of preferably ammonium molybdate (0.003-5wt.% based on phthalic acid or the derivative) in an inert organic solvent (preferably 1.5-7 times as much tertamylbenzene as phthalic acid or the derivative thereof by weight is used) at 140-230 deg.C under 0-20kg/cm G, the solvent is distilled away under reduced pressure and the prepared residue is washed with 3-10 times as much hot water (60-80 deg.C) as the residue to give the objective compound having >=97% purity and
