TAKE-UP DEVICE

PURPOSE: To eliminate erroneous adjustment to a stopper member used for a maintenance work for a belt tensioner by forming a stopper surface of the stopper member from a side surface positioned in parallel with the vertical axis. CONSTITUTION: A tension sleeve 19 is frictionally engaged in a hole 20 in a support 1 so as to be slidable in the direction of a vertical axis 21. Further, a stopper surface 22 is formed on the outer periphery of the tension sleeve 19, in parallel with the vertical axis 21. In this arrangement, the vertical line 21 is extended, perpendicular to the direction of the motion of a piston 15, in parallel with a pivot axis of a bifurcated lever 6. With this arrangement, during a maintenance work for the belt tensioner, by shifting the tension sleeve 19 to an assembling position so as to allow a tappet 12 to abut against the stopper surface 22, the piston 15, a tension spring 26 and a hollow piston 29 in a damper 27 are held at a middle position of a stroke 25 which is structurally limited. Thereby it is possible to tense a toothed belt without erroneous adjustment.
