Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide the subject composition forming coating films having excellent water resistance, solvent resistance and mechanical characteristics by emulsion-polymerizing a monomer having an alpha,beta-monoethylenic unsaturated double bond containing a methylol group, etc., in the presence of a colloidal alumina sol and chitosan. CONSTITUTION:A monomer having an alpha,beta-monomethylenic unsaturated double bond containing at least methylol group or N-alkoxymethyl group [e.g. N- methylol(meth)acrylamide, N-n-butoxymethyl(meth)acrylamide] is emulsion- polymerized in the presence of a colloidal alumina sol and chitosan to provide the objective composition. A water-soluble resin having a quaternary ammonium salt group is preferably further added to the emulsion polymerization system. An amino resin and an epoxy resin are preferably further added.
