INDUCTION SYSTEM FOR LASER PULSE BEAM OF HIGH ENERGY AND ENDOSCOPE

PURPOSE: To transmit ultraviolet laser in a living body to remove plaques due to atherosclerosis by an induction system that is composed of a guide wire to be inserted into a blood vessel, and by arranging an optical fiber, within the guide wire, to transmit laser energy. CONSTITUTION: A guide wire 1 comprises a pliable wire to be coiled for a spiral coil 2 of approximately 0.015 in. in outer diameter. Preferably, the pliable wire is made of stainless steel of approximately 0.0015 in. in diameter. A pliable silica fiber 5 of approximately 200 micron in diameter is fit into the hollow lumen of the spiral coil 2 coated with a plastic cover 3. Insert the guide wire 1 into an occluded artery, place its 1 tip close to the occlusion, transmit laser energy through the silica fiber 5 to make a small opening in the occlusion. When once the opening is made, the guide wire 1 can pass through the occlusion.
