PRODUCTION OF ALIPHATIC O-ARYLURETHANE

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate raw material for masked isocyanate and aliphatic isocyanate in high yield by reacting an aliphatic primary amine with an aromatic hydroxyl compound and urea while removing the reaction by-product. CONSTITUTION:An aliphatic primary amine is made to react with an aromatic hydroxyl compound and urea at 150-280 deg.C. The reaction is carried out while removing by-produced ammonia from the reaction system in such a manner as to keep the ammonia concentration to =1mol and that of urea is maintained to >=0.5mol based on 1mol of the amino group of the aliphatic primary amine. Since the process does not use phosgene and carbon monoxide, the objective compound can be produced in one reaction step without causing the problems of corrosion and toxicity, producing large amount of hydrogen chloride gas as a by-product nor using expensive noble metal catalyst.
