Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To perform uniform and objective observation by adjusting a light source for irradiating an optical fiber so as to always make the irradiation quantity of light of said light source optimum. CONSTITUTION:An imaging apparatus 5 converts the quantity of light at each scanning point of image data to an analogue electric signal which is, in turn, transmitted to an operational amplifier 61 in predetermined timing. The amplifier 61 transmits said signal to an A/D converter 62 and the output thereof is controlled by the data decoder 63 of a control circuit 6. The image data thus converted by the A/D converter 62 is transmitted to a CPU 66 to be processed according to a predetermined program and the core position of an optical fiber 1 is confirmed. In the observation apparatus of the fiber 1, the quantity of light irradiating the fiber 1 is automatically controlled on the basis of the image data. When the core position can not be confirmed, the CPU 66 calculates the optimum irradiation quantity of light and the current applied to a light source 2 is controlled so as to obtain said quantity of light and the core position is confirmed in such a state that the irradiation quantity of light of the light source 2 becomes optimum.
