LASER DEVICE

PURPOSE:To always prevent an optical probe from being damaged irrespective of a kind by setting automatically the maximum allowable optical power value corresponding to the kind of the optical probe, and also, controlling a laser output based on the value. CONSTITUTION:When a connector part 1 of an optical probe 2 is coupled to a connector receiving part 5, whether a code projection 4 exists or not is detected by a code detecting means and a detecting signal is sent to a code decoding circuit 6, and the kind of the optical probe 2 is identified. Subsequently, in a maximum optical power setting circuit 7, the maximum allocable optical power value is set is accordance with its kind and sent to a comparator 9, compared with a laser output which is set by a laser output variable means 8 of a device main body side by a worker, and the value of the lower one of them is sent to a laser output control circuit 10. In such a manner, a laser output always becomes below the maximum allowable value of the optical probe 2, and no damage is generated in the optical probe 2.
