SYSTEM FOR RETRIEVING ITEM NUMBER BY POINTING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To eliminate the necessity of adding a special information table to a videotex picture registered in a center so as to reduce the time and labor by preparing a table provided with an area for writing positional information of X and Y coordinates and another area for writing character codes of the item numbers in the memory of a terminal equipped with a pointing device. CONSTITUTION:A center is only used for registering videotex pictures. On a terminal side, a table having an X- and Y-coordinate areas and numeric code area is provided in a memory 11 and processes are performed by reading out programs which are previously stored in a ROM 4. The center transmits requested picture data to a terminal and the terminal stores numeric codes and positional information in the relevant areas of the table and, when coordinate values are inputted by designating, for example, Item Number 1 area by means of a pointing device, the terminal retrieves the table with the coordinate values. When the relevant numeric code information exists, the terminal picks up the information and transmits the information to the center after converting the information into the Item Number 1 of transmitting data.
