Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To detect a facial flaw with detection sensitivity close to that for a flaw along an axial direction of a pipe and bar material even if said facial flaw is a slanted short flaw by a method wherein a coil diameter of a detection coil is determined by the length of a facial flaw so that substantially non- directional detection sensitivity is provided. CONSTITUTION:A coil diameter of a detection coil is specified to a size with which the sensitivity characteristics of the detection coil is close to substantially non-directional characteristics with respect to the average length of a facial flaw. By determining the coil diameter of the detection coil with the flaw length considered, a facial slanted flaw on the surface of a material to be inspected can be detected with detection sensitivity close to that for flaws along the axial direction of a pipe and bar material with high reliability even though the facial flaw is a short slanted one.
