RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To simplify a circuit constitution by causing the width of a recording head to be two-fold or above that of a track pitch, simultaneously, providing a level detector to detect the level of a reproducing signal and detecting a recording error by means of the output of the level detector. CONSTITUTION:When the width of a pair of recording heads HW1 and HW2 is made two-fold or above that of a track pitch Tp, since the recording of 2Tp or above is executed by the recording head one before an instantaneous clog even when the instantaneous clock is generated to one channel of a pair of recording heads HW1 and HW2, a drop-in is not generated. Consequently, since an azimuth is the azimuth inverse to the track recorded by 2Tp or above by the recording heads HW1 and HW2 one before even when reproducing heads HR1 and HR2 pass on the track to be instantaneously clogged at the time of read-after-write, an RF signal is not obtained at all. The fact that the RF signal does not exist is detected by a level detector 10, and the recording error is detected. Thus, the circuit constitution can be simplified.
