Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To provide high economical efficiency, a small lamp dimension, and high efficiency additionally so as to provide a discharge lamp suitable for outdoor lighting by limiting a temperature in a foil end part close to a base to maximum 350 deg.C. CONSTITUTION: A filler consists of mercury and at least one kind of rear gas and metal halide, and a lamp shaft 5 is formed as a pinch sealing part. The length of the lamp shaft 5 is approx equal to that of a discharge container 2, and a foil 8 buried in the lamp shaft 5 ranges over almost all length of the lamp shaft 5, so that a foil temperature of 350 deg.C at most close to that of a base can be obtained. In this way, high economical efficiency, a small lamp dimension, and high efficiency can be additionally provided, so that the lamp can be suitably applied to outdoor lighting.
