PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of the editing processing of a text including mixedly characters and images together by dividing text data to at least characters and images at the time of expressing contents of the text and constituting divided contents of prescribed elements. CONSTITUTION:A central processing unit CPU 19 controls a keyboard/mouse control part 11, a disk control part 14, a display control part 17, and an actual memory 16 and edits text information in accordance with input information. In such a case, text data is divided to characters and images, and divided contents consists of prescribed elements, and image data which indicates images and a table where information to indicate image editing procedures is registered are added for elements indicating images; and when the text internally expressed in this manner will be preserved in a file, a code which can be subjected to data processing in the same manner as the character code is provided to images, and data consisting of this code and the character code and image data corresponding to this code are divisionally preserved. Thus, the editing processing efficiency is improved.
