Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To reduce the weight of a light metal piston for an internal combustion engine by setting back those end faces of its piston pin bosses which face the small end of its connecting rod outward below those segments of the top apex portions of the bosses which spread on both sides of a plane including the piston pin axis and the piston axis and include a specific angle. CONSTITUTION: In the piston so designed that the width of a connecting rod head is 15 to 50% of the diameter of the piston and the diameter and length of a piston pin are 20 to 45% and 50 to 85% of the piston diameter, piston pin bosses 5 are set back outward below those segments of their top apex portions 8 which spread on both sides of a plane including the piston pin axis and the piston axis and include an angle of less than 180 degrees. The above constitution reduces the weight of the piston and ensures sufficient load resistance thereof.
