Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics, long still life and improved durability by using magnetic powder essentially comprising iron or Co-contg. iron oxide covered with silicon compd. and aluminum compd. and using a binder comprising specified five-component copolymer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic powder essentially comprises iron or Co-contg. iron oxide covered with silicon compd. and aluminum compd. is used. The five-component copolymer used as the binder comprises vinyl chloride, acrylate or methacrylate, OH-contg. acrylate or methacrylate, acrylate or methacrylate containing phosphate group or sulfonic group or their salts, and vinyl acetate. By this combination, dispersibility of the magnetic powder is improved with good compatibility with polyurethane resin to be also incorporated, so that the crosslinking property of the coating film is improved. Thereby, the medium has excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics, long still life and little deterioration of output caused by clogging of a magnetic head.
