Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To easily obtain an aromatic polycarbonate containing little organotin compound by reaction between 2,2'-bis(4'-hydroxyphenyl)propane and dimethyl carbonate in the presence of an organotin compound at a specified temperature and separating the solid organotin compound formed. CONSTITUTION:(A) 1mol of 2,2'-bis(4'-hydroxyphenyl)propane is incorporated with (B) 1X10 to 1X10mol of an organotin compound followed by (C) dimethyl carbonate at the molar ratio C/A=0.5 to 20, and the resulting mixture is allowed to react at 180 to 280 deg.C under an increased pressure of 1 to 50kg/cm . The organotin compound gradually solidified in the reaction solution is separated through e.g. filtration and recovered, thus obtaining the objective aromatic polycarbonate.
