COATING COMPOSITION

PURPOSE:To obtain a coating compsn. which gives a light blue metallic color having an excellent decorative effect without using any pigment by incorporating a scaly metal pigment having specified thickness and mean diameter and an acicular titanium oxide having specified thickness and length into the coating compsn. CONSTITUTION:A scaly metal pigment (A) (e.g. a foil of aluminum, bronze, gold, titanium, stainless steel, nickel, copper, an alloy thereof, or a plastic- covered metal, or scaly phthalocyanin blue, with a thickness of 0.5-1.5mum and a mean particle diameter of 10-45mum) and an acicular titanium oxide (B) (with a thickness of 0.05-0.1mum and a length of 1-5mum) in a wt. ratio of A to B of (1:0.05)-(1:12), pref. (1:0.4)-(1:5), are incorporated into a coating compsn. to make the coating compsn. useful for coating an automobile, etc. The coating compsn., which is esp. pref. to give a glossy appearance and blue color, contains a scaly aluminum pigment and said acicular titanium oxide in the abovementioned ratio and has the total pigment content 50% or lower and the aluminum pigment content of 15% or lower.
