DEVICE FOR COMBUSTION TEST

PURPOSE:To ensure safety of the work involved in combustion tests of specimens carried out in an enclosed space, which is a testing chamber of testing tank, and enable leaving the results of the tests intact by a method wherein a device for extinguishing a fire using a gaseous fire-extinguishing agent is activated from the outside of the testing chamber or tank. CONSTITUTION:Combustion test of specimens 6 is carried out inside a combustion-test apparatus 1. A fire-extinguishing gas bomb 3 is charged with a fire-extinguishing gas under pressure. A worker in charge of the test, upon decision on completion of the combustion, turns on a switch 2 to activate the fire extinguisher. A valve 4, which has held the fire-extinguishing gas in confinement, thereupon opens so that the gas is ejected from a fire-extinguishing gas nozzle 5 into the combustion-test apparatus 1 and thus the fire is extinguished through oxygen deficiency in the enclosed space. Since this method thus enables workers to extinguish a fire without approaching the specimen, safety of the testing work is ensured and, since a fire is extinguished by gas, not by a spray applied directly to the specimen, the method enables leaving the remains from combustion intact.
