Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To maintain light emitting characteristics over a long period of time by forming a light emitting layer composed of fine particles retaining adsorbed water and contg. oxidized group IV elements and further forming an org. moisture retaining layer on the light emitting layer. CONSTITUTION:This light emitting member has a light emitting layer 2 composed of fine particles and an org. moisture retaining layer 3 on the layer 2. The layer 2 is a film obtd. by depositing water adsorbed fine particles based on oxidized group IV elements such as C, Si and Ge oxides in the form of a layer or a film contg. the fine particles dispersed in a binder. The layer 3 has low moisture permeability and is transparent and dense. Since degeneration due to dehydration and oozing of water can be prevented, the light emitting characteristics can be maintained over a long period of time.
