TILT STEERING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To prevent a steering wheel from returning unexpectedly from its retracted position, by enabling a tilt bracket secured to an upper shaft and an upper column to be folded with respect to a stationary bracket secured to a lower shaft and a lower column, about an axis orthogonal to both shafts in a vertical plane. CONSTITUTION:A U-like tilt bracket 30 which is secured to the lower end of an upper column 3 pivotally supporting an upper shaft 1 secured at its upper end with a steering wheel and a U-like stationary bracket 40 which is secured to the upper end of a lower column 4 pivotally supporting a lower shaft 2 linked at its lower end to a steering mechanism, are coupled together rotatably and coaxially with a foldable shaft between both shafts 1, 2. Further, a second stopper plate 32 having an engaging means adapted to engage with the tilt bracket 30, for restraining the fold of the upper column 3 and releasing the restraint of the same is pivotally supported to the stationary bracket 40. Further, a first stopper plate 31 for restraining the rotation of the second stopper 32 and releasing the restrain thereof is pivotally secured to the tilt bracket 30.
