Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To protect switching elements in an inverter from breakdown by providing a means for detecting abnormality in a current detecting section and a protective means for stopping or disabling an inverter upon detection of abnormality thereby preventing operation under abnormal control state. CONSTITUTION:A logic operating section 7 performs ON/OFF control of a semiconductor element gate turn-off thyristor 9 thus controlling output voltage and current of a power converter(inverter) 1. An abnormality detector 5 performs detecting operation when a current detecting section 2 is not detecting real output current of the inverter. Output from the abnormality detector 5 is fed to the logic operating section 7, and the operation of the inverter 1 is stopped upon detection of abnormality. If abnormality is detected when the inverter 1 is not operating, the inverter 1 is disabled.
