ENERGY-ABSORPTION TYPE BUFFER FOR USE IN SAFETY BELT OF AUTOMOBILE

PURPOSE: To provide a high energy absorbing capability by forming deformation members as a pair of toothed rollers, in a device which absorbs energy by causing a strip element to be pulled out by a tensile force not smaller than a predetermined force relating to a safety belt, while being deformed by the deformation members. CONSTITUTION: A plastically deformable strip 13 of a metallic plate is formed into a coil 14 and housed in a case 10 having a mounting tongue piece 11 with a hole 12 for freely swingably mounting on an automobile body. An end of the coil 14 is secured to a pin 15 in the case 10, and the other end is brought out through the space between two opposite guide pins 16, 17 and guided to the outside via a case opening 18, the free end thereof being coupled to a mounting piece 19 supporting the middle of a safety belt 20. Two deformation members 21, 22 which are toothed rollers 23, 24 plastically deforming the strip element 13 passing between the guide pins 16, 17 and the case opening 18 are freely rotationally provided between the guide pins 16, 17 and the case opening 18, and one of the deformation members, 21, is supported freely movably in a direction perpendicular to the extending direction of the strip element 13.
