MANUFACTURE OF ALUMINUM SERIES ALLOY SINTERED COMPACT

PURPOSE:To manufacture the sintered compact with good productivity at low cost without producing compacting cracks by mixing rapidly solidified powder of Al or Al alloy with fiber of Al or Al alloy in specific ratios, subjecting the mixture to compacting and thereafter to sintering. CONSTITUTION:By weight, 50 to 95% rapidly solidified powder constituted of Al or Al alloy and 5 to 50% fiber constituted of Al or Al alloy are mixed. As the above powder, the one having about 10 to 80mum diameter obtd. by a gas atomizing method or the like is preferably used. Furthermore, as the above fiber, the one having about 0.1 to 1mm diameter and about 0.5 to 5mm length is preferably used. The mixture obtd. by this method is subjected to compacting by cold die compacting or the like. The compact is sintered to integrate the above powder and fiber; as necessary, the sintered compact is forged. In this way, the Al series alloy rapidly solidified powder is compacted at an ordinary temp. without producing compacting cracks, by which the Al series alloy sintered compact can be obtd. with good productivity at low cost.
