Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To advantageously obtain the aimed compound without accompanying production of acetone by hydrogenating acetone produced as a by-product and then dehydrating the resultant product to convert to propylene capable of using again. CONSTITUTION:Benzene is reacted with propylene to synthesize cumen, which is then oxidized to convert cumen to cumen hydroperoxide. Then cumen hydroperoxide is subjected to acid cleavage to provide the aimed phenol. In this time, acetone produced as a by-product is hydrogenated to convert acetone to isopropanol, which is then dehydrated to provide high-purity propylene capable of directly using as a raw material for cumen synthesis since a sulfur compound or heavy metals are not contained. Consequently, phenol can be produced without producing the by-product and further load for purifying propylene is reduced and cumen production process is remarkably rationalized by circulating the above-mentioned product to the cumen production process as the above- mentioned raw material and re-utilizing the raw material.
