Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To increase resistance to scratch and crack by laminating a hard, transparent glass protective layer and a silica layer of specific composition sequentially on the pretreated surface of the base of a metal molded projected for ornament. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the base of a metal molded product for ornament is treated using technique such as plating, honing, hairlining, nitridization or flame spraying. After the treated surface is dried in the air, a colloidal solution containing 20 to 21% by weight of SiO2 and 3.8 to 4.4% by weight of Na2O, which is diluted by a factor of 4 to 8 with distilled water, is applied on the air-dried surface. Then the coat is heated and dried to form a hard, transparent glass protective layer. Next a solution of organic ester silicate partly hydrolyzed is applied on the surface of the protective layer, and the coating is heated and baked to form the metal surface layer of an ornament such as watch case. The formed metal surface layer is not contaminated with fingerprints and also is not scratched.
