Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To obtain the E-isomer of the subject compound useful as an agricultural and horticultural germicide and fungicide by treating the Z-isomer of imidazole derivatives with an acid in the presence of a solvent, followed by decompositon of the resultant salt. CONSTITUTION:The Z-isomer of 2-(1-imidazoyl)-2-[4-(2-chlorophenyl)-1,3- dithiolan-2-ylidene]acetonitrile expressed by formula I (R represents formula II) is treated with an acid (preferably hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid) in the presence of a solvent (example; water or dichloromethane) and the produced salt is decomposed to afford the objective E-isomer. The concentration of the acid is preferably 20-60% and the amount of the acid to be used is preferably within 5-100 molar ratio.
