CATALYST FOR PURIFYING WASTE GAS FROM INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE, PRODUCTION THEREOF AND PURIFICATION OF WASTE GAS

PURPOSE: To enhance the ability of an exhaust gas purification catalyst to purify exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine by making a specified amt. of a Pt group metal carried as a catalyst component on an aluminum oxide carrier contg. CeO2 and ZrO2 . CONSTITUTION: An aluminum oxide carrier is impregnated with an aq. soln. contg. a Ce salt and, optionally, a Zr salt and it is calcined at 500-900 deg.C in air to form a carrier contg. 2-70 wt.% CeO2 and 0-20 wt.% ZrO2 . This carrier is impregnated with an aq. soln. contg. a salt of a Pt group metal and a Zn salt and it is calcined at temperatures of 250-650 deg.C in a flow of a hydrogen- contg. gas to obtain the objective catalyst with 5-30 wt.% Pt group metal and 0.1-40 wt.% ZnO carried as catalyst components. This catalyst is used as an oxidation and/or reduction catalyst for purification of exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine with a reduced tendency to emit H2 S.
