FRICTION WELDING EQUIPMENT

PURPOSE:To improve detection of a point of time of contact between members to be joined by providing plural chuck pawls split into the first half bodies and the latter half bodies to the front of a fixed unit and interposing insulated layers into joining parts of the respective half bodies. CONSTITUTION:The chuck pawls 13 are fixed radiately on the front of a chuck main body 11 of the fixed unit 10 by bolts 12 and chips 14 to hold one member W1 are fixed on the pawls 13 by bolts 15. The chuck pawls 13 are split into the first half bodies 13a and the latter half bodies 13b along the axial direction and the insulated layers 16 consisting of ceramic layers 17 and resin bonding layers 18 are formed on the joining parts. At the time of performing friction welding of works W1 and W2, a detection circuit is closed by contact of the works W1 with W2 and a power source is connected to a part close to the members to be joined. Accordingly, a leak of an electric current is reduced and the detection of a point of time of contact between the members W1 and W2 to be joined is ensured and its detecting accuracy is improved.
