Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To enable a magnetic recording and reproducing device to be used even when only a reproduction dedicated part is split from the magnetic recording and reproducing device by splitting a reproducing part from a recording part. CONSTITUTION:The title device is constituted of the reproducing part provided with a first engaging means and to reproduce a signal recorded on a magnetic tape by driving the magnetic tape, and the recording part to record the signal by engaging the first and second engaging means. Components required minimum for reproduction are provided at the reproducing part. Thereby, high portability can be obtained by realizing the miniaturization and the light weight of the device by splitting only the reproduction easily, and also, in recording, the recording and reproduction can be performed by coupling the reproducing part with the recording part easily.
