Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To obtain excellent picture quality with a small irregularity in contrast by driving liquid crystal on a dummy picture element group with a driving signal to a voltage which is lower than the driving signal voltage for liquid crystal on a picture element group for display and lower toward the outer peripheral part than at the inner peripheral part. CONSTITUTION:The dummy picture element group 7 is arranged outside the picture element group 6 for display and in the internal area of a seal material 3. Then the liquid crystal present on the dummy picture element group 7 is driven at a lower voltage than the liquid crystal 5 present in the picture element group 6 for display and the driving voltage is lowered toward the outer periphery. The transition of the liquid crystal state is made smooth between an image display area and a no-image display area including the dummy picture element group. Consequently, the excellent picture quality which has the small irregularity in contrast is obtained.
