Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide the title production process in high efficiency with increased carbon yield, so designed that a porous carbonaceous material form is put in a thin- wall metallic container, and this form is coated with an impregnating material consisting of a carbonizing matter followed by sealing said container, which is then charged into a hot hydrostatic press unit to perform impregnation-carbonizing treatment. CONSTITUTION:A carbonaceous material form 4 is put, with a gap, in an airtight, metallic thin-wall container 1, and said gap is filled, under atmospheric or reduced pressure, with an impregnating material 5 such as molten tar or pitch so as to entirely cover the form 4 followed by airtightly bonding an airtight metallic lid 2 to said container 1 (welding at a part 6). Thence, said container 1 as a whole, is charged into a hot hydrostatic press unit, and a replacement of the pressure medium gas within said unit is made, followed by raising temperature to such a point as to melt said impregnating material 5 into a liquid and adding the pressure medium gas to compress the entire container to effect impregnating said form 4 with said impregnating material 5 followed by temperature rise and carbonizing part or the whole of said impregnating material 5 under high pressure.
